The Science of Color
Color is nothing more than the wavelength of light that reaches our eyes.
From violet, which is the smallest wavelength, to red, which is the largest, these wavelengths make up the visible spectrum of color that we can see.
Two Types of Color
Chemical Color
The most common form of color visible to us. In the case of chemical colors, pigments and dyes are added to predetermine what color we see.
Structural Color
Structural color is generated by the interaction of light with the microscopic structure of the material. The shape and exact size of these structures affect the wavelength of light as it exits the material, exhibiting specific colors.
From morpho butterflies to peacocks, some of the rarest and most beautiful colors in nature are the result of structural color.
The Science of Tooth Color
All smiles have something in common, and that is the colors that make up human tooth shades.
From A1 to D4, all tooth shades express a narrow range of red-to-yellow color.

Mechanism
OMNICHROMA composites are the first to use structural color in composite dentistry as the main color mechanism.
OMNICHROMA fillers generate red-to-yellow structural color as ambient light passes through the composite, without the need of added pigments and dyes. The red-to-yellow color combines with the reflected color of the patient’s surrounding dentition, creating the perfect match from A1 to D4 and beyond.
OMNICHROMA composites extrude opaque white and will shade-match upon light-curing.
